Local Listings are Changing as Google Evolves Once More

ANy business owner who has been online for any length of time will be all too familiar with the way that Google’s results can suddenly change and present a completely new mixture of results for the same question or search.  This isn’t something that should surprise anyone and it is also no good listening to the supposed “gurus” bleating and bitching about it.  This is Google’s stated purpose.  To provide the most relevant results for any search query string that gets typed in. Local listings are no different.  Previously, it was only necessary to have your Google places listing to have a very good chance of showing up in the first page map results.   In the short time I have been involved in the local search ranking business, even my...

WordPress Themes are Coming of Age.

WordPress Themes are Coming of Age.

After several months of using the Thrilling and Atahualpa themes on this and other blogs,  I had become dissatisfied with the way the categories listing was starting to crawl down from the header section into the main posting space. It tended to make anything I say about marketing tips look unprofessional and discouraged me from buying into the paid version. I don’t mean to throw sticks at an otherwise excellent theme that I was using the free version of.  It was a simple case of not finding (or making) enough time to dig out a solution to the problem. WordPress as a vehicle, is amazing for anybody who wants to get online quickly and effectively, but more importantly now, it has matured into an incredibly sophisticated open source offering that is available...

Good to See a Local Cumbrian Blog Making Progress

Good to See a Local Cumbrian Blog Making Progress

As I have slowly got my head around Linked In and the other useful social media sites, I discovered that there was indeed a Cumbrian group. After joining up and waiting till my membership approval came through, one of the first characters I noticed was Najeeda. This turned out to be half the story as Najeeda is in fact two women who seem to hang out in the South Lakes. They have got a very simple straight forward blog going and are providing some excellent information to subscribers. Worth a look… and no I don’t earn anything from the recommendation 😉 It is refreshing to see that the Cumbrian group on Linked In is very diverse and quite active.  Take a look at the Cumbrian Link Group Page The next event is a face to face meet up in Penrith organised...

Cambridge Business Academy; Are They an Honest Advisor On How to Make Money?

For those involved with the quest to learn how to make money in the present economic climate of cock up, connivance and greedy sociopathic banking without guilt; there are endless torrents of information aimed at grabbing your time, attention and cash. Sometimes you just have to sort the wheat from the chaff and with Kevin Potts’ Cambridge Business Academy, you have found some good honest golden wheat! OK … that’s a little over the top I know. I’ve been involved in learning about Internet Marketing for a couple of years now without much idea of a particular direction to take. I am one of those people who for years has resisted and spat dummies at the whole idea of marketing without ever standing back for a minute to understand its value in...

WordPress Direct, An Auto Blogger Review

WordPress Direct, An Auto Blogger Review

A couple of months ago, I signed up for Ed Dales Challenge 2010.  This is a challenge based internet marketing course, which provides its training materials free and only involves minimal extra costs.  If you have any aspirations about getting online to earn cash, I highly recommend you access these materials as they teach – through a free trial, the use of  1 tool that makes the investigation of microniches a much faster task and also gives you access to a 2nd software that is the subject of this review.  WordPress Direct is essentially a blog empire management service, for all internet blog marketing megalomaniacs! It seems as though the actual Challenge Free trial is still available so I would get it while you can – and in their words: Welcome...

Social Media Marketing – What Use is That to a Small Business?

There’s been a lot of hype, buzz; call it what you will, about social media marketing and its collective effect on businesses.  Over the past couple of years, the idea of Twitter and Facebook has gradually clarified into 2 separate but complementary tools for communicating with potential, current and previous customers.  The video I’ve included here isn’t mine: and for died in the wool traditional Brits you’ll have to forgive the Socialnomics man for his accent, but the information is exceptionally relevant right now with the potential of a sudden financial vacuum as this governments economic tool of choice. There is an enormous change in the behaviour of the Customer since web 2,0 evolved.  However nerdy or odd to some of us old gits; the...
